It wasn't a normal assembly like the ones we usually have at school. This assembly was a lot more touching and inspirational than any other assembly. This assembly was Rachel's Challenge where the speakers challenged us to make a difference in other's lives.

On April 20, 1999, the worst high school shooting occurred in Littleton, Colorado at Columbine High School. 2 students walked into the school with guns and fired at the students and teachers. 12 students and one teacher were killed and the gunmen shot themselves. The first to be killed of the students was Rachel Joy Scott. Rachel had this theory that if someone went out of their way to show kindness, it would start a chain reaction. A few weeks before the shooting, Rachel wrote an essay about her ethics and her codes of life. In the essay she said, "If one person can go out of their way to show compassion, then it will start a chain reaction of the same. People will never know how far a little kindness will go." Rachel lived her life by that standard.

A few weeks her death, her family found something that she had written when she was 13. On the back of her dresser, she drew the outlines of her hands and in the middle she wrote, "These hands belong to Rachel Joey Scott and will someday touch millions of people's hearts." Rachel had a premonition that she was going to die young. She wrote about it in her journal and also about her codes of life. On the back of her journal, she wrote,"I will not be labeled as average." Rachel wanted to make sure that she would start a chain reaction of compassion and kindness and that is exactly what she did.

At the end of Rachel's Challenge, they challenged us to 5 things;

Look for the best in others- eliminate prejudice

Dare to dream- set goals and keep a journal

choose positive influences- input determines output

Little acts of kindness- use kind words

Start a chain reaction!

Rachel reached out to 3 groups of kids; the new students, the disabled students, and the ones that have been put down or pushed down. During Rachel's Challenge, they talked about a new student who had just moved to Colorado from Georgia. She was sitting alone at a lunch table and Rachel was the only one who seemed to notice. Rachel went over to the table and introduced herself, and even though the girl said she didn't want to sit with Rachel and her friends, Rachel still brought her friends over to her table. Later Rachel would find out that a month earlier, the girl's mom had just died in a car accident and that is why her dad moved her and her brother to Colorado.

They also told a story of a boy who was disabled and picked on all the time. The day Rachel became his friend, two other boys were picking on him and pushing him against the lockers. Rachel intervened and told the boys to back off or they could fight her. The boys backed off and Rachel became friends with the boy. It wasn't until after Rachel's death that the boy told Rachel's family that the day she intervened, was the day the boy had planned to take his own life. Rachel had no idea that she had saved his life.

Rachel's challenge has inspired me to make a difference. Rachel lived by her theory that a little bit of kindness would start a chain reaction. I agree with Rachel's way of life. Just because someone may be different or even new to the school doesn't mean that they should be treated differently. This doesn't have to be just in school. You can do this anywhere you want to. Whether its at school, work, or even if you see someone that may need help carrying groceries to their car. Even a simple hello or a smile can make someones day. You too can start a chain reaction. The chain reaction has to start with you.

*I got all the information from Rachelschallenge.com
Avs Freakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09622350879516415124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-781128916813791931.post-2079953894790004972010-08-27T05:54:00.006-06:002010-08-28T15:55:05.901-06:00The Will to WinIn order for a team to be successful, they need the will to win. Whether its the will to win a game, a series, or even the championship, teams need to have that will. The other important thing that a team needs is chemistry. A team could have 20 player that all have the will to win but if they can't work together as a team, they won't win games.

Let's start off with the Colorado Rockies. I am just going to talk about one Rockies game where it definitely took a will to win. The game was August 25, 2010 against the Atlanta Braves in Denver. Esmil Rogers, the starting pitcher for the Rockies lasted 2 and 2/3 innings before having to be replaced. It was 7-0 when Rogers he was pulled. The third inning wasn't much better as the Rockies then went behind 10-1. After 5 innings, the Rockies slowly started to pick away at the Braves' lead, trailing 10-5. The Rockies weren't quite done in the 6th, scoring 3 runs, now it was 10-8. Bottom of the 8th, Rockies score 4 runs to make it 12-10. They needed 3 more outs to win. Top of the 9th, batter 1, pops out to Shortstop, Troy Tulowitzki. Batter 2, grounds out to third baseman, Melvin Mora. Batter 3, flies out to left fielder Carlos Gonzalez, game over. The Rockies scored 11 runs in the last 5 innings to win the game 12-10, sweeping the series against the Braves.

Next, the 2001 Colorado Avalanche. It was Ray Bourque's last season in the NHL, he had never won the Stanley Cup and the Avs were trying to win it for Ray. The Avs had their best season that year. Patrick Roy got his NHL record 448th win, Denver hosted the all-star game and the Avs won the President's Trophy (awarded to the team who has the most points at the end of the regular season). The next step was to win 16 more games and the cup would be theirs. In the fourth and final round of the playoffs, the Avs faced the defending champions, the New Jersey Devils. The Avs fell back 3-2 in game five, bringing the series to New Jersey for game 6 in front of the Devil's fans. if the Devil's win, the season would be over for the Avs. If the Avs win, then they head back to Denver for game 7. The Avs won game six 4-0. Game seven brought more joy to the city of Denver as they defeated the Devils 3-1, bringing the Stanley Cup back to Denver and winning the Stanley Cup for Bourque.

Finally, the New Orleans Saints ( Yes I love the Saints!). The Saints had never won the Super Bowl and they had never even made an appearence to the Super Bowl before. That was until last season when they had the best season in Saint's history. After Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast, things were never quite the same. The 2005 season for the Saints was spent away from their home arena, the Superdome. They played home games either at the Alamodome in San Antonio Texas or in LSU's Tiger Stadium. In 2006, a year after Katrina, the Saint's were back in the Superdome in New Orleans. The Saint's owner announced before the season that the Superdome was sold out for the entire season with season tickets. The 2006 season came to an end when they lost to the Bears in the NFC Championship game. The 2007 and 2008 seasons were big losses for the Saints. They finished 7-9 and 8-8 respectively in each season. In 2009, the Saints started the season with 13 wins before losing the last 3 games of the season. For the first time in Saint's history, they made it to the Super Bowl to face the Indianapolis Colts. They won Super Bowl 44 by a score of 31-17 in Indianapolis.

There are many other teams that I could have written about but these teams are close to my heart. They work hard year after year and even though it doesn't always turn out how they wanted it to, they still work as a team and they have that will to win. The Avs won the Cup for Ray Bourque, the Saints won their first ever Super Bowl, 4 years after Hurricane Katrina and for the Rockies, hopefully that game was a sign for some good to come.Avs Freakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09622350879516415124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-781128916813791931.post-38685198363824464012010-08-10T16:43:00.008-06:002010-08-16T20:11:50.238-06:00And let's root, root, root for the ROCKIES!!As everyone knows, I am a huge hockey and Nascar fan. Well, now I am also a baseball fan! I started watching the Colorado Rockies earlier this summer and now I watch every game. As of right now, the Rockies are 5 games back of the Padres in the National League. It's the stretch run right now as the Rockies are in New York taking on the Mets.

This season, the Rockies have had their ups and their downs. But through it all, the Rockies have come together as a team and are making the playoff push.

The ups:

Ubaldo Jimenez had the first no-hitter in Rockies history

Carlos Gonzalez hit a walk-off homerun for his first cycle of his career

Jimenez has a season-record of 17 wins

The downs:

Shortstop, Troy Tulowitzki missed 7 weeks with a broken wrist after he was hit with a pitch

The Rockies went on a 7 game loosing streak in the month of July

1st baseman Todd Helton missed a couple weeks with a back injury

My favorites:

Little Pony, Cargo and Gonzo are just a few names they call Carlos Gonzalez. He leads the Rockies in homeruns (25), batting average (.321), and RBI's (79). Although he is in a little slump at the moment, he is an awesome player and he is really cute! :)

Don't you agree?? :)

My other favorites are Troy Tulowitzki, Ian Stewart, Seth Smith, Ubaldo Jimenez, Todd Helton, Ryan Spilborghs, Dexter Fowler.... Ok I love them all! :)

The Rockies are 8 and half games back of the Padres who are first in the NL West. Hopefully the Rockies can get those games back and get through the final stretch of the season.

GO ROCKIES!!!!!!

-I got the pic of Cargo from Coloradorockies.com
Avs Freakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09622350879516415124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-781128916813791931.post-49725555627997781242010-05-27T15:20:00.005-06:002010-05-27T15:46:19.203-06:00Best Weekend Ever!!!!The last two months I have sat at home and in school, just waiting for May 23rd to get here! No it's not my birthday and no, it's not the last day of school. It was even bigger and better than both of those! It was the best weekend ever and I will never forget it!

Last Friday, me and my mom flew from Colorado (in first class!!) to Raleigh, North Carolina. My uncle picked us up at the airport and brought us back to his house. My aunt got home from work, my cousin came over and we ate pizza! It was a fun night! But the fun was just beginning.

On Saturday, my other Aunt flew in from Alabama and we all went out to Ted's Montana Grill and then went shopping! I am a girl so shopping is a lot of fun! But still, the fun wasn't even close to being over!

Sunday May 23, was the day that i will never forget. I couldn't sleep the night before so I was up early. I did my hair, ate breakfast and my aunt did my make-up. Me, my mom, and my both my aunts got in the car for the 2 and a half hour drive to Charlotte. The closer we got to Charlotte, the more nervous I got. I had so many butterflies in my stomach to the point that it hurt and my hands were ice cold. I was trying to text people to get my mind off of it but of course all my friends were still asleep since I was 2 hours ahead of them!

We finally arrived at Xtreme Ice Center, Owned and Operated by the Logano family. Can you guess what I did yet? Here is a picture and see if you can guess from that:

That's right, I MET JOEY LOGANO!!! Joey, who is my all time favorite NASCAR driver is standing right next to me in that picture!! Can you believe?! I know I couldn't. I still don't think that it has sunken in all the way that I actually met him! But it sure was the best day of my life! And I didn't just get to take a picture with him, I actually talked to him for like 5 min! :)

It was Joey's first annual fan club day and around 100 people showed up. We first got to ice skate with Joey, then a question and answer session and an autograph session. We even got to sing happy birthday to Joey who turned 20 the day after I met him! He is the nicest guy I have ever met! He talked to every single fan that was there. He even helped this little boy skate. His whole family was there and they were also really nice.

I am pretty sure that I didn't stop smiling until about 36 hours after I met him. And now the pictures I got with him are my background on my computer, phone, Ipod, and my profile pic on facebook. So every time I see one of the pics I smile again!

It was sad that the weekend ended but i have all the pictures to prove that I met him. I still feel like it's a dream that I met Joey but I know I actually did. I know for a fact that I will never forget that day!

P.S. Good luck in Charlotte this weekend Joey!!Avs Freakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09622350879516415124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-781128916813791931.post-84080507331244345502010-04-17T14:14:00.003-06:002010-04-17T14:44:07.225-06:00Playoffs!The playoffs are finally here!! Round one started on Wed. and I am mostly happy with how it is going so far. The playoffs are going to be tough this year with all of the talent on both sides. Here are the round 1 match-ups:

Western Conference:
1) San Jose Sharks vs. 8) Colorado Avalanche
2) Chicago Blackhawks vs. 7) Nashville Predators
3) Vancouver Canucks vs. 6) Los Angeles Kings
4) Phoenix Coyotes vs. 4) detroit red wings

Eastern Conference:
1) Washington Capitals vs. 8) Montreal Canadians
2) New Jersey Devils vs. 7) Philadelphia Flyers
3) Buffalo Sabres vs. 6) Boston Bruins
4) Pittsburgh Penguins vs. 5) Ottawa Senators

My Picks:

Western Conference:

Sharks vs. Avs- This one is a given! The series is tied at 1 and the next game is tomorrow!

Hawks vs. Preds- I am going with the Hawks in this one! Nashville leads the series 1-0.

Canucks vs. Kings- I am going with the Kings in this one! Vancouver leads the series 1-0.

Coyotes vs. red wings- Do i really need to say it? The series is tied at 1.

Eastern Conference:

Caps vs. Habs- The Caps are my overall pick for the Eastern Conference! Montreal leads 1-0.

Devils vs. Flyers- I don't care about either team. The series is tied at 1.

Sabres vs. Bruins- I like both teams but going with the Sabres. The series is tied at 1.

Pens vs. Senators- I am going with the Senators. The series is tied at 1.

Well those are my picks for the first round. Round 2 will be up when it starts! I am happy with how the playoffs have started. There have been a few very exciting games and a few underdogs that have won! I will be happy as long as the wings and Pens don't make it any farther than the first round! I have had enough of those two teams in the playoffs the last 2 years!

Sidenote:
Out of the 27 players on the Avs' roster, 14 players have never been to the playoffs before. We are one of the youngest teams in the NHL so the veterans are stepping up the leadership during the playoffs! GO AVS!!!! :)Avs Freakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09622350879516415124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-781128916813791931.post-22157193657891990152010-04-01T20:14:00.005-06:002010-04-01T20:38:13.996-06:00Soccer!Soccer has been going on for a few weeks now and I am having so much fun! It took me awhile to get back into it since I haven't played since 6th grade but the choice to do it again is turning out to be a good one. Plus we have the best team ever! Both varsity and JV are amazing and I have made many new friends. Even though JV has a little too much fun at practice!

Having practice every day after school gets tiring after a few days. I just want to go home and sleep most of the time! Plus we play in Colorado where it's freezing even in the spring! Such as today when the wind was pretty much stronger than we were and was just blowing the balls and our bags everywhere around the field. It was very annoying. Not much got accomplished today in practice because we were chasing all of our stuff around!

JV has had 2 games so far this season. Our first game was against one of the best teams in Colorado; Valor Christian. They dominated the game but we all learned a lot. The final score of that game was 9-0. Our second game was yesterday against Vanguard and it was an amazing game. We did a lot better on offense and our defense was great. We did end up losing the game but it was still a great game. The final score was 3-1. We are done for games this week and don't play again until Wednesday when we go to play Legend. After we play Legend, we are back home on Friday and play against Vista Ridge. Both should be great games!

Even though soccer is making me so tired and sore, I am glad I decided to play again! Plus I am wearing number 10 which is one of my lucky numbers! Can't wait until our next game!Avs Freakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09622350879516415124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-781128916813791931.post-3387755775800240912010-02-21T18:08:00.003-07:002010-02-21T18:15:05.208-07:00Picture of the Day (2)This is probably my new favorite picture! It is of Joey Logano and it is so funny but cute at the same time!

If you don't know the story behind this picture than here is the link to the commercial!

Joey Logano and Kyle Busch Commercial

I hope that made you laugh! I know it made me laugh! :)

P.S. Joey did rebound from the Nationwide race with a top 5 in the Sprint Cup Race today! Joey and Biffle did see each other a few times on the track. Biffle did hit Joey again but he still couldn't get by Joey! Good race today Joey!!

I got this picture from Joey's fan page on Facebook.Avs Freakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09622350879516415124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-781128916813791931.post-32303401120803780742010-02-20T18:30:00.002-07:002010-02-20T19:08:47.587-07:00My unhappiness with Greg Biffle (2)Once again, Greg Biffle shows that he is a complete idiot. Do you guys remember back to October when the Nationwide Series was in California at Auto Club Speedway when Biffle decided to hit Joey into the wall and Joey still ended up winning? Well something similar happened again today. The funny thing is that they were in California at Auto Club Speedway. I see a pattern.

The Joe Gibbs Nationwide cars always dominate at Auto Club Speedway. They have won the last four races there with three different drivers (Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch and Joey Logano). Everyone is always chasing the Gibbs cars. Guess who everyone was chasing today.

After qualifying was over, the two Gibbs cars were both on the front row. Joey in first and Kyle in second. Once the race had started, Joey got the lead and led most of the first half of the race. Kyle had led 3 laps. Even Kyle was chasing Joey. Kyle even said over the radio at one point, "We have an awesome car, but what does he have in his?" Joey ended up leading 130 of 150 laps.

There was a late caution with 6 laps to go in the race. Everyone in the front stayed out instead of getting tires. Joey was on the inside of row one next to Kyle. Keselowski was behind Kyle and Biffle was behind Joey. When the race went back to green, the top four battled hard going into turn 1. Biffle hit Joey from behind and Joey got really loose, almost hitting the wall and loosing 3 spots. Then coming to the checkered flag, Keselowski hit Joey and he spun out in the infield. Kyle ended up winning and Biffle came in second.

Anyone remember what happened to Biffle last time he did this to Joey? The next two weeks he was wrecked. So I am going to be looking forward to the next few weeks of Nascar!

Here are the videos of the last few laps and the post race reactions of Joey and Biffle:

Last Few Laps

Joey and Biffle's reactions

I want to point a few things out from what Biffle said;

1) Joey is not a rookie!! He hasn't been a rookie in the Nationwide Series for 2 years!
2) Joey did not spin his tires on the restart and Joey didn't block Biffle, he didn't move from his spot on the track! Biffle just hit him!!
3) Biffle is a complete idiot!!

I am not happy with Biffle right now! And neither is any of Joey's fans on facebook!Avs Freakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09622350879516415124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-781128916813791931.post-1141892458125166692010-02-19T17:09:00.003-07:002010-02-19T17:26:40.824-07:00NASCAR!Nascar is back finally!! After two months of the Nascar off season, it is finally back! The biggest race of the season, the Daytona 500, was last week and it was a pretty wild race.

There were two red flags because of a hole forming in the track and it had to be repaired. I thought that was pretty strange and funny at the same time!

This year, I have four favorite drivers (well I did last season as well) and its hard to decide who to root for every week. But of course, I have to go with Joey Logano! He is amazing and is no longer a rookie! My other three drivers are Joey's teammates, Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch along with Kasey Kahne. All four drivers had a rough time at Daytona, with two of them being involved in a crash. Kasey was hit by Jeff Gordon late in the race and hit another car and finished 30th. Joey was also involved in a crash and finished 20th. The other two JGR drivers finished in the top 20 but not a top 10. Kyle finished 14th and Denny finished 17th.

I am happy with who won the race though! Jamie McMurray won in his first season back with Earnhardt Ganassi Racing. Dale Jr. finished 2nd and stupid Biffle finished 3rd.

Right now, I am watching qualifying for the Sprint Cup on Sunday. Joey is in 9th at the moment and hopefully wont fall back too much farther. It does look a lot warmer in California than it does here in Colorado!

P.S. The United States is still undefeated in the Olympics as of right now! But on Sunday, they are playing another team that is undefeated, team Canada. It should be a pretty good game! Hopefully the US can pull of another victory! :)Avs Freakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09622350879516415124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-781128916813791931.post-89905607054133655112010-02-16T19:47:00.002-07:002010-02-16T20:01:08.414-07:00Song of the Day (3)The song of the day is in honor of my dad! He can never remember the artist of songs. So every time he hears country song, he will just automatically say Lady Antebellum. It makes me and my mom laugh a lot!

So here is Lady Antebellum:

I Run to You

P.S. Hockey in the Olympics has officially started! Today, the United States played Switzerland and won 3-1! Stastny didn't score but that's ok! Tomorrow, Budaj and Slovakia play the Czech Republic while Salei and Belarus play against Finland!

I hope you are all enjoying your week so far! :)Avs Freakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09622350879516415124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-781128916813791931.post-2372929705900856522010-02-15T10:28:00.003-07:002010-02-15T10:56:39.942-07:00Olympics Vancouver 2010The winter Olympics are finally here!! I know that they started a few days ago but I am still so excited that they have started. I absolutely love the winter Olympics. I am sure that most of you can figure out why without me saying why. It's obviously because of hockey! The only bad thing about the Olympics is that the NHL is on a 2 week break for them.

I am excited though because 3 of the Avs' players are representing their country! Paul Stastny for the USA, Peter Budaj for Slovakia and Ruslan Salei for Belarus. I want all three of those players to win the gold medal but only one can. Hopefully the US can bring home a medal if not the gold.

The hockey is going to be so tight this year though. Team Canada and Team Russia are probably the two favorites. Canada has Sidney Crosby, Martin Brodeur and Eric Staal. They have a lot on offense and an amazing goalie so it will be interesting to see if they can come home with a medal on home soil. Russia has three of the leagues best scoring guys that you could ask for. With Alex Ovechkin leading the way and Evgeni Malkin and Ilya Kovalchuk right behind him.

The United States has a pretty good chance though. They too have a lot of talent surrounding them. Leading them in goal is Ryan miller who is having an awesome season so far with the Buffalo Sabres. Other than Stastny, there is Zach Parise, Patrick Kane, Chris Drury and Jamie Langenbrunner on offense.

I am so excited for the hockey part of the Olympics to start tomorrow! It's going to be a fun competition between the teams! Hopefully the US can come home with the gold!Avs Freakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09622350879516415124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-781128916813791931.post-61892962588196473082010-02-14T19:25:00.002-07:002010-02-14T19:30:46.131-07:00Picture of the Day (1)My picture of the day is of my two nieces! Well at least it is if you are a hockey fan and you all know I am. Every hockey fan knows this song. Some teams will change it up a bit and put their player's names in it instead of it saying Bobby Orr. For the Avs, they put Paul Stastny's name in it!

Anyway, here is the Good Old Hockey Game by Stompin Tom Connors

The Good Old Hockey Game

Hope you enjoyed an NHL Classic! :)

P.S. He said something about having a song of the day. So I decided that it would be fun to have songs and quotes and facts of the day. Anything that seems like a fun thing to share with everyone!

So I am going to start off with a song of the day! This song has been stuck in my head the last few days. It's called Perfect People by Natalie Grant.

Perfect People

I will try to post one everyday!! Hope you enjoy the songs and facts that will be up mostly every day! :)Avs Freakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09622350879516415124noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-781128916813791931.post-68745884191242210882009-12-14T15:56:00.002-07:002009-12-14T16:15:42.768-07:00Glorious DayCasting Crowns now has 4 albums out. Every time they came out with a new one, at least one of their songs quickly becomes my new favorite. It's really hard for me to pick a favorite though because I love every one of their songs. But I think I can narrow it down to 4 songs.

1. Casting Crowns- Voice of Truth
2. Lifesong- Praise you in this Storm
3. The Altar and the Door- East to West

My favorite song from their new album is just an awesome song. I first heard it when I went to the Casting Crowns concert a few months ago and as soon as I heard it, I texted my dad and told him to go listen to it. I have loved this song since the first time I heard it and it will stay one of my favorites.

4. Until the Whole World Hears- Glorious Day

I hope you all have enjoyed listening to these songs! Casting Crowns has so many more songs and they are all great songs. It was hard for me to pick just 4 of my favorites.Avs Freakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09622350879516415124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-781128916813791931.post-80296667708480883162009-11-22T19:57:00.001-07:002009-11-22T20:02:13.814-07:0018 Year Olds! This year has been a great year for 18 year olds. Joey Logano got to start his first season in Sprint Cup this year. Matt Duchene and Ryan O'Reilly got to start their NHL career the same year they got drafted.

Joey (Sliced Bread) Logano was supposed to be in Nationwide this season but because Tony Stewart left JGR, Joey got the call to take his place and to start his career a year earlier than he had planned. Joey's rookie season in Sprint Cup was mostly a learning year for him. He had his ups and his downs. He got his first Sprint Cup win in a rain-shortened race in New Hampshire. He had a roller coaster ride of a crash at Dover when he rolled 8 times. He raced some of the best drivers in the world such as Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and his teammate, Kyle Busch. He even got to host Monday Night RAW with Kyle Busch and stand face to face with a wrestler that was 4x his size. He has 9 top tens, and 7 finishes of 30th or worse. Overall, Joey was pretty satisfied with his first season and sits in 19th spot in the standings with one race to go. Joey hasn't won it yet but he has a pretty safe lead over Scott Speed in Rookie-of-the-Year standings.

Matt (Dutchy) Duchene was drafted 3rd overall in the 2009 Entry Draft. He has played every game this season with the Avs. So far, everyone is impressed with the 18 year old. Duchene has played all 23 games of the regular season with the Avs. After those 23 games, Matt has 3 goals and 7 assists for 10 points. He has 43 shots on goal and has set up goals for some of the games greatest, like Milan Hejduk and Paul Stastny. Duchene started out the season centering a line with Marek Svatos on his right and Darcy Tucker on his left. Recently, he has been centering a line with Milan Hejduk on his right and Tucker on his left. Even his teammates are impressed with how he has been playing.

Ryan (Snook) O'Reilly was drafted 33rd overall in the 2009 Entry Draft. He to has played every game this season with the Avs. He has also impressed everyone so far. After the 23 games the Avs have played so far, O'Reilly has scored 4 goals and has 11 assists for 15 points. He has 36 shots on goal so far and has also set up some of the greats such as Marek Svatos and Milan Hejduk. O'Reilly started out the season centering a line with Chris Stewart on his right and Cody McLeod on his left. Recently, he has been playing with Marek Svatos on his right and Cody McLeod on his left. Every game O'Reilly impresses everyone even more.

This year has been a great year for rookies. From hockey to Nascar, the young guys are definitely stepping it up. It's great to see these kids having such great success at such a young age. Plus, I am able to relate to them since I am close in age. They all talk a lot like I do so it's always fun listening to them talk. I hope that Sliced bread, Dutchy and Snook all keep having success, cause it sure is fun to see them doing amazing things at a young age.Avs Freakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09622350879516415124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-781128916813791931.post-14380403254644248582009-10-13T08:28:00.008-06:002009-10-24T13:49:45.963-06:00My unhappiness with Greg Biffle..Robby Gordon made me unhappy a few weeks ago and now, so has Greg Biffle. The sad part is, I used to like "The Biff." This time though, even my parents understand why I am so mad at him.

2 weeks ago, Nascar Nationwide Series was in Fontana at Auto Club Speedway. Joey Logano was on the pole, his teammate, Kyle Busch was starting next to him in second and Biffle was starting 14th. Usually, the two Joe Gibbs Racing teammates are the two everyone is chasing, but this weekend, Kyle wasn't much of a threat to anyone. Kyle was sick with a fever but still started the race so he would get the points and Denny Hamlin (Joey and Kyle's teammate on the cup side) was standing by for when the first caution came out.

Kyle got the lead from Joey after a few laps and led until that caution came out on lap 36. When everyone came in for tires, Kyle got out of the car and the crew helped to get Denny buckeled up and then change the tires. They re-started in the back of the pack. Meanwhile, Joey was in the front getting a lead on everyone except for one. Biffle was a little bit faster than Joey and caught up to him.

Once Biffle had caught up to Joey, the battle for the lead began. Joey was up against the wall and Biffle was on the inside of him. Then, Biffle hit Joey and Joey went into the wall and lost the lead and many more spots as everyone started to pass him because of the damage to the right side of his car. At this point, I was a little upset but that happens a lot, I figured that Biffle just got loose.

At the time when Biffle hit Joey, Jeff Gordon was with the announcers talking about the Chase. Jeff said that Biffle was too good of a driver to do that on accident. Then the announcers decided to listen to the Joey radio. Joey was screaming because Biffle put him into the wall. Then they listened the Biffle radio. He said that Joey came down on him and he didn't do anything wrong. Now I was wondering about what had happened.

While Joey was getting the damage fixed on his car, there was a new threat on the track. Denny Hamlin, in Kyle's car, had made his way back to the front and was now in a 3 way battle with Biffle and Keselowski. All of a sudden, Denny got a little loose and wrecked himself and Biffle. Keselowski got by without hitting them and so did Carl Edwards and Joey. Joey came back on that restart and won the race, his second win in two weeks.

I was watching the after race stuff to see if they said anything about Biffle and what I heard made me so mad. A lap before Joey and Biffle got together, Biffle told his crew cheif on the radio that he was going to put Joey into the wall. >:(

Later in the week, Biffle said that he was sorry for putting joey into the wall but Joey had a lot to learn about respect for vetern drivers. He said, "I didn't run im into the fence on purpose. I just meant to put a little squeeze on him like he did to me at Kansas." Later, he said to Joey, "I think you need to pay a little more respect to the veterans in this sport." My response to that - the young guys do need respect for the veterens but the veterens also have to have respect for the young guys. It goes both ways.

Joey is in the blue and orange Toyota and Biffle is in the blue ford.

To see the video of the two drivers getting togerther, Click Here.

To see the article about what Biffle had to say, Click Here.

And just a little side note, karma came back around to Biffle in the Sprint Cup Race the following day when he and Kasey kahne crashed. And Biffle is in the Chase so that hurt him a lot.Avs Freakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09622350879516415124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-781128916813791931.post-17048243150015637102009-10-13T08:27:00.006-06:002009-10-15T15:51:38.036-06:002 Words... Holy CrapAlmost 3 weeks ago, I was on a plane, coming home from North Carolina. I was either on the plane or at the airport most of the day. The bad news about that, I had to miss the Sprint Cup Race that day.

We had a layover at Washington-Dulles Airport after we left Raleigh. When we got off of the plane in Dulles, i had a text from my aunt (who is also a Nascar fan!). I read the text and I started freaking out. The text said: "Joey Rolled his car, he is ok." So those were the two things i knew. I had no idea what had happened and even though I knew Joey was ok, I don't think I was. I sent my aunt a text back saying : "What?!?!?!?!?!?!" Once we got off the plane, i called my dad to see if he knew exactly what had happened. Here was our conversation:

Me- "What happened to Joey?!"
him- "I don't know but he isn't on the track."
Me- "Well I know why he isn't."
Him- "Why?"
Me- "All I know is that his car rolled."
Him- "I will try to figure it out."

After that, I had to get on the plane, worrying about Joey the whole time. When we landed in Denver, I had another text from my aunt and what this one said, freaked me out a lot more than the first one: "He rolled at least 8 times." This was my expression: =o

I called my dad when we were on our way to the baggage claim and he told me what had happened;

Everybody had started checking up going around a turn and Tony Stewart (who was behind Joey) didn't realize that they were checking up. Tony hit Joey from behind and Joey spun out into the grass. The trouble didn't end there. Joey went back out onto the track and into traffic. Reed Sorenson tried to slow down but was also getting hit from behind by Martin Truex Jr. and Robby Gordon. As soon as Reed Sorenson hit Joey, his roller coaster ride begun. And he just kept on going and going.

Click here to see the video of the crash.

"It just really scared the heck out of me... It started rolling, and I was in there thinking, 'Man, just make this thing stop.'"

That was the quote from the nineteen year old who said that he was fine but was just shaking from the accident.

I'm glad you're ok Joey!!!!

Avs Freakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09622350879516415124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-781128916813791931.post-58214961877608719502009-08-08T20:45:00.009-06:002009-08-10T18:41:49.338-06:00My Unhappiness with Robby Gordon...Most of you guys probably don't know this but I am slowly becoming a huge Nascar fan. Not as big of a fan like I am with hockey but that is beyond the point. Anyways, I was watching the Nationwide Series race on Saturday, watching a lot of my favorite drivers battle it out for the win. At one point, all of my drivers were in the top ten. But then the problems started halfway through the race.

Denny Hamlin, who was in the top 5 most of the race, started having problems with his car and left the track and went to the garage. I am not sure exactly was wrong with his car but I know he left the track and didn't return.

My all-time favorite driver, Joey Logano, had the biggest problems out of anyone. But his problems were caused by another driver. Joey, who is the youngest driver in Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series, was wrecked by Robby Gordon with 11 laps to go in the Zippo 200 at the Glenn, but the battle between the 2 drivers started half way through the race.

It started when Robby Gordon decided to hit joey and they both ended up with flat tires and damage to their cars. Joey did nothing wrong, except Robby Gordon thinks that Joey is at fault. By this time, both drivers are really mad and both were a lap down after getting repairs to their cars. The battle was still not over. The two drivers were next to each other going into the "bus stop", which is the hardest turn on the track. Gordon hit Joey down to the bottom of the track and Joey bumped him back a little bit. By now, there was 11 laps left in the race and the battle got ugly. Going around turn 9, a car spun out bringing out a caution. On the same turn, Gordon hit Joey from behind, sending Joey into the tire wall. Not only was the front of his car completely destroyed, but his car also caught on fire.

Joey got out of the car and was fine but tempers were flaring. After Joey got released from the medical center, he was surrounded by the media. His quote from the crash, "It's pretty stupid to wreck someone under caution but you can't fix stupid, it's forever." Words from a teenager (lol)!

I can't find the video of Robby Gordon's interview from after the race, but what he said was that he didn't care what Joey thought because Joey was at fault. My mom is in the chair next to me and my dad is in his office. They are both on the phone and doing things on the computer at the same time. This is normal for my family. As my dad would say, "we are a family of nerds." I do agree with that statement, usually.

The other night, me and my parents were outside sitting on the front porch. My dad was sitting in the chair with his laptop and was emailing people from work. My mom had her Ipod and was playing games and I was sitting in the chair with my laptop and doing random stuff as usual. My dad looked up (for a few seconds) an simply said, this is sad, we are a family of nerds. As we were all occupied by our electronics, people kept walking by or driving by and we just kept wondering why this night was so busy on our street. I thought that it was really funny.

Now, we are all doing the same thing that we were the other night except we are all inside, where no one else can think we are nerds as well. Hopefully we will all be off the computers soon and do something together. My dad said we were going to go to Texas Roadhouse but he never asked my mom so we will see if we actually get to go out for dinner. But for now, we are a family of nerds and I wouldn't change my family for anything.Avs Freakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09622350879516415124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-781128916813791931.post-18449271410644992432009-07-19T15:25:00.009-06:002009-07-19T21:33:04.405-06:00A tribute to Lappy...On July 2, 2004 Ian Laperriere signed a free agent contract with the Colorado Avalanche. Ian quickly became a fan favorite for the Avs fans. Ian had his own fan club called "it's all about Lappy" and t-shirts with that saying were seen all over Pepsi Center. July 1, 2009, 5 years after Lappy signed with the Avs, Ian was unable to agree to a new deal with the Avs and therefore, he signed a three-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Look through of the 5 years Ian was with the avs:

05-06 season:

Ian was an immediate success in Colorado in 05-06 season, posting the best points total of his career. Me and my mom drove back home from Texas and got home on Sunday night but my dad wasn't there because he was up in Alaska killing fish (otherwise known as his "business trip"). So Tuesday morning my mom went to the airport to pick him up at 5:30 in the morning and got him a Starbucks (which I never got one) and he came home. A few hours later after my dad re-packed and hid in his office, he left again to go on a real business trip to D.C. where he is meeting with Congress (haha, he had to wear ties and he doesn't like ties). So he is gone again.

This trip is no fun for me though! I can't call and annoy him 5 times a day because he is with Congress. It's really no fun to sit at home and not annoy him. I doubt he will get out of a congress meeting just to see if there is Avs news or not (which there isn't but that is not the point). He is going to be home all next week which I am excited about and we are going to try and start on my room, hopefully.

Oh and the schedule for the 09-10 NHL season is out and we are going to buy tickets to the first game because that is when Joe is retiring his jersey. When I looked on the page where you buy tickets, there is a picture of me, my mom, and my dad at an Avs game! It's so cool!

Click here to see the pic.

P.s. He spent his whole career with this one franchise. He has been the heart and soul of the Avs ever since they became a team in 1995 and he has been a hero to many. Joe did so many things to help this franchise through the years. He helped bring hockey back to Colorado, and bring Colorado it's first professional championship. He helped someone to win his first cup after he had played 22 seasons in the NHL. Joe has been the only captain in Avs history and when the 09-10 season starts, there will be a new captain. Today, Joe announced his retirement from hockey.

Here are some of the major highlights of Joe's NHL career:

June 13, 1987 - Joe was drafted 15th overall by the Quebec Nordiques.

October 6, 1988 - Joe made his NHL debut and recorded his first career point.

October 8, 1988 -Joe scored his first career goal in a 5-3 loss against the New Jersey Devils.

October 5, 1989 - Joe played his first game wearing number 19 (the number he wore for the rest of his career).

March 31, 1990 - Joe recorded his first 100 point season.

1992-93 season - Joe became the captain of the Nordiques.

April 25, 1996 - Joe scored his first career playoff hat trick against the New York Rangers.

June 10, 1996 - Joe wins his first Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe Trophy.

March 14, 1997 - Joe scored his first regular season hat trick for the Avs.

August 6, 1997 - Joe signed a three-year, $21 million offer sheet with the New York Rangers but the offer was matched by Colorado to keep Joe on the Avs.

December 27, 1999 - Joe became the 56th player in NHL history to record 1,000 career points.

June 9, 2001 - Joe wins his second Stanley Cup along with the Hart Trophy (awarded to most valuable player), the Lady Byng Trophy (the player who shows the most sportsmanship), the Lester B. Pearson Award (the NHL's most outstanding player during the regular season, and named to the all-star game.

February 24, 2002 - Joe helps Team Canada to the gold medal and named tournament MVP.

December 11, 2002 - Joe becomes the 31st player in NHL history to record 500 career goals.

April 24, 2006 - Joe scored his 7th career overtime goal (NHL playoff record).

October 25, 2006 - Joe becomes the 11th player in NHL history to record 1,500 career points.

February 15, 2007 - Joe became the 17th player to record 600 career goals.

October 23, 2008 - Joe scores his 625th goal, his final goal of his career.

November 2, 2008 - Joe records his 1,641st career point, his final point of his career.

November 28, 2008 - Joe appears in his final game before sitting out the rest of the season with a back injury. He played one shift of the game.

July 9, 2009 - Joe announces his retirement from hockey.

As I said before, Joe has been a hero to many and has helped so many people. Here are some other things he has done:

In 2001, when the Avs won their second cup, Joe didn't take the victory lap around the rink with the Cup first like captains always do. Instead, Joe gave the Cup straight to Ray Bourque who had played 22 season in the NHL (20 and half seasons with the Bruins) and still looking for his first Stanley Cup victory. Joe gave the Cup to Ray who was crying with excitement and he took the first lap while Joe waited his turn.

Joe's first few seasons with the Nordiques, he was mentored by the great Peter Stastny. In 2006, Peter's son, Paul, was drafted by the Avs and Joe mentored him. Joe was one of Paul Stastny's heroes growing up and Joe helped him throughout the 3 years they got to play together.

Joe spent the last 2 seasons of his career with injuries that made him miss most of the season. 2 years ago, Joe had surgery for a sports hernia. Last season, he played a total of 15 games because of a herniated disc in his back and 3 broken fingers because of a snow blower incident. Joe was one of the many players on the Avs that were hurt last season.

The 2 main reasons why Joe is retiring;
1) He is still recovering from the injuries last season and he didn't want to risk getting hurt again.
2) Joe has 3 kids; Mitch, Chase, and Kamryn. Mitch is 12 and plays hockey. Chase and Kamryn are twins, 9 years old. Chase plays soccer and Kamryn does gymnastics. Joe wanted to be able to go to their sports games and be able to spend more time with them. (How sweet is that?!?!)

Joe's jersey is getting raised to the rafters the game opener of the 09-10 season. As long as we are able to get tickets, I will be at that game. It's going to be a very emotional time for the staff, the players, and the fans. Joe was loved so much in Colorado and it's going to be very sad to see him leave.

Joe Sakic
Forever our captain, #19Avs Freakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09622350879516415124noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-781128916813791931.post-78005251946312392009-06-30T16:26:00.002-06:002009-06-30T17:09:34.856-06:00YAY!!!!!!!!BUDAJ RE-SIGNED WITH THE AVS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Budaj now has a one year contract for $1.25 million.

WOOHOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Avs Freakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09622350879516415124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-781128916813791931.post-80242396455461075472009-06-29T15:54:00.006-06:002009-06-29T20:19:08.044-06:00Starting to make me mad...As the free agency for hockey starts on Wednesday, rumors about who's going where are shooting out like crazy. On the NHL website, they made a list of the top 50 free agents this summer.

Click here to see the article.

I agree with the top 50 list. Two Avs player's are on the list, they are Joe Sakic and Ian Laperriere. As I read about what they thought about Joe and Ian, I started getting soo mad. They said about the same thing for both players. They said that Ian and Joe were too good of players to stay with the Avs because the Avs are "rebuilding" as a team so they need to go to places where they can actually win. What the heck? If Joe stays one more season, the Avs aren't going to trade him for anything in the world. I know the stupid Canucks are trying to get Joe but it's not going to happen. According to everyone, Ian is already as good as gone but I don't think the Avs would trade him either. They both have helped the Avs soo much and the Avs wouldn't get rid of them.

I know the Avs didn't do good at all last season but why does everyone keep saying that they are "rebuilding" because they haven't done good the last few seasons? One season that they didn't do good and everyone counts them out for everything. And saying that our best players aren't going to stay with the Avs because the Avs aren't good enough for them, that is just plain rude and stupid.

At least the Avs fans stick with their team through the good and the bad. Unlike other teams (red wings) whose fans only love them because they win!!!

Before the season ended for the Avs, I read somewhere that some guy from Canada would love to buy the Avs and move them to Canada. Ok, not going to happen! One: the avs aren't going bankrupt so there is no reason to move them. Two: they did bad one season! Not a good enough reason to move them! And three: they would have to go through one angry fan to move the team. Can you guess which fan that is?

I brought that up because I was thinking about the Phoenix Coyotes who are going bankrupt and might get moved to Canada. It's sad and if that happened to the Avs I would die. I kinda like the Coyotes too and I don't want them to move. It would be a sad day in the NHL if that happened.

Oh and just another thing, according to Adrian Dater (sports writer in Denver), he met with the Avs new GM and Sherman said that the Avs staff knows Joe's answer about next season. If they know, why can't they tell us?!?! I would love to know if joe is staying or not!Avs Freakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09622350879516415124noreply@blogger.com0
